The trauma of (especially) moderate (home-bound) and heavy to heaviest (bettlägerigen, those in need of care) ME sufferers don't stop with the disease. It starts with the disease.
- The medical classification system ICD-10[7] and the associated diagnostic instructions describe the trauma criterion as:
„[…] a stressful event or a situation of shorter or longer duration, with exceptional threat or disaster-like proportions, which would cause a deep despair in almost everyone (ICD-10) (with. B. Natural disaster or man-made disaster - combat deployment, bad accident, Observing the violent death of others or being a victim of torture, terrorism, Rape or other crime).“

The heavy ones, bis schwersten körperlichen Symptome, which more or less most of those affected fight out for themselves, for decades (and until they are finally treated or die for serious secondary diseases), the daily uncertainty, whether practical everyday life can be mastered, the constant threat of cardiac and metabolic collapse , neurological failures, Signs of paralysis, Minderdurchblutungen, severe pain etc.. so the uninterrupted ones “Signals” of the deeply weakened and incapable of action body, downregulated by the disease… the screams of distress… this body…
are a “event, that with a feeling of extraordinary, catastrophic threat” goes along with that, still no therapy in prospect, no end is set for an indefinite period.——————————–
Every serious illness goes with a feeling of being at the mercy of a loss of control, of saying goodbye. Bei Myalgischer Encephalomyelitis (like maybe undiscovered diseases as well) the specialty lies in it, that those affected do this in complete darkness for themselves, während zum Beispiel ein Betroffener von Krebs oder Multipler Sklerose mit menschlicher Empathie und Beistand aus seinem privaten wie auch dem gesellschaftlichen/politischen/medizinischen Umfeld rechnen kann. Dieser Beistand und diese Empathie durch das “System” are not to be underestimated.
